American Idol loses two
'American Idol' finalists Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens became the latest contestants to be voted off the show on Elvis Presley week last night (14.04.10)
'American Idol' finalists Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens were voted off the show last night (14.04.10).
The pair appeared resigned to their fates following poor performances on the singing contest's Elvis Presley week, with Andrew the first to be told he was departing the competition.
When told the news by host Ryan Seacrest, Andrew - who had sung 'Hound Dog' - said: "Thank you guys, I appreciate everything.
"I'm glad I've been through what I've been through. You guys let me experience something that I've never experienced and thank you."
As all of the other contestants were told they had been saved, only Katie - whose performance of Baby, What You Want Me to Do' had been branded "annoying, shrieky and too loud" by head judge Simon Cowell - was left and subsequently told she had been eliminated.
After receiving the news she thanked the show's fans and her fellow contestants before welling up as she sang her final song, a rendition of the Beatles 'Let It Be'.
The show lost two contestants because no one went home last week due to the judges using their 'Save' to keep Michael Lynche in the competition.
The eight remaining contestants will be mentored for next Tuesday's (20.04.10) show by Alicia Keys and will perform inspirational songs.
This will be followed on Wednesday (21.04.10) by 'Idol Gives Back', a two hour fundraising event which will feature stars including Black Eyed Peas, Carrie Underwood, Mary J. Blige and Sir Elton John, and will be packaged alongside the next elimination.
