Set eight years after the events of Bioshock, this standalone sequel improves on its predecessor without escaping its shackles entirely. Here, the player takes charge of the very first Big Daddy, a hulk genetic modification grafted into a diving suit. New mechanics include the introduction of Big Sisters (forewarned by a terrifying, screen-shaking scream) and a simplified hacking mini-game. The story lacks the original’s sucker-punch twist but the art direction and sound design ensure this is a breathtaking, atmospheric experience.
