Homecoming Scotland Finale
- The Midgie
- 10 September 2009
The Homecoming Scotland year has been jam-packed with events and, as it draws to a close, we highlight the best finale celebrations
Right in the heart of Glasgow, the UNESCO City of Music, comes the biggie of the Homecoming finale events, with top bands a-go-go. To celebrate Scotland’s contribution to the worldwide music scene, there will be a whole weekend of musical mayhem – with the main event being held in the SECC, alongside a number of smaller gigs throughout Glasgow. The band details aren’t out yet, but good things come to those who wait …
Homecoming Live concert, Sat 28 Nov, SECC, Glasgow and gigs at various other venues over the weekend of Sat 28 - Sun 29 Nov.
St Andrew's Festival
With the Homecoming celebrations scheduled to finish on St Andrews day, what better place to go for a finale party than St Andrews itself? The town is hosting a ‘Haggis and Hoolie’ spectacular. There will be live music, a street ceilidh and a traditional torchlit procession. It sounds like the perfect conclusion to the homecoming year, topped off with the UK’s largest son et lumiere show (sound and light, to you and me) depicting Scotland’s historic journey through the ages
Sat 28–Mon 30 Nov, St Andrews, Fife.
Scots Trad Music Awards
Everyone loves a good old awards ceremony, a chance to cheer and shriek (and maybe even ‘boo’). The event kicks off with a traditional ceilidh dance, followed by the Gala Award Ceremony and then there will also be a special Sunday concert featuring musician’s from Scotland’s past. Once again, you’re going to have to wait to find out who the special guest will be. This Homecoming bunch like their surprises, don’t they?
Fri 27 - Sun 29 Nov, Dumfries.
Historic Scotland, Free Weekend
As a special end of Homecoming and St Andrews Day celebration, over the weekend of the 28th and 29th of November you can visit more than 40 Historic Scotland attractions for the total sum of diddly squat. That’s right, it’ll cost you nadda, nothing, zero, zilch. And you can visit sites the length and breadth of Scotland, from Stirling Castle to Skara Brae. We’re planning a Midgie day out to Melrose Abbey. You’re welcome to join us. Did we mention everything’s FREE?
