The formidable front lady Karen O along with guitarist Steve Zinner and drummer Brian Chase are on the road again in the UK, bringing with them some of their enviable creative spirit and musical passion. Now onto their third album, the band have built a strong fan base among the alternative indie rock music lovers, with first album Fever To Tell becoming something of a cult essential to many passionate fans. The album’s songs still play a prominent and important role in their live set, with ‘Maps’ reigning strong as the chilled out sing-a-long song of the night, and Karen O warms even the coldest of hearts with the simple but beautiful line ‘they don’t love you like I love you’. Second album Show Your Bones brought the anthemic ‘Gold Lion’ with its powerful drums and howling vocals, building on the success of their debut. Never a band to shy away from taking chances, they are always seeking to build on success as opposed to resting on it.
By embracing diversity the band have shown that playing it safe is not an option and boundaries were there to be challenged resulting in the New Yorkers taking a slightly different direction from their previous two efforts, dabbling with electro dance-inspired sounds and even some bagpipes but still retaining their distinctive art rock sound. Their energetic live sets are fronted by a quirky outfit or two, an amicable smile and a great deal of passionate rock.
