Hairdressers in Edinburgh and Glasgow

Haircuts are always expensive, but definitely not something to skimp on – no one wants to end up wearing a hat for two months to grow out a dodgy self-cut do. So put those kitchen scissors down and make the most of these offers and discounts

It's sometimes a bit hit and miss going for a bargain haircut - cheap doesn't always mean cheerful. So if you're going to do budget, head for the big-name salons to ensure a professional cut. In Glasgow, Rainbow Rooms International has a training academy where student cuts start from just £14 – a third of the price in the main salon. Highlights start from just £28.

If you're not too precious about your current look, why not try being a hair model? Saks, Toni & Guy and Vidal Sassoon in the city centre all regularly advertise for models for their juniors to practise on. It may take slightly longer than the average appointment, but the stylists are supervised and it's often free.

Numerous salons are always competing to pull in the new students, and there are discounts aplenty to be had. Cusp Salon offers 20% off cuts from Tuesday to Friday, and Rebel Rouge on Sauchiehall Street gives a whopping 50% off the first appointment, with 25% discount thereafter.

While the capital may not have the big name salons that Glasgow does, there are still plenty of hairdressers offering promotions to lure in new custom. The Charlie Miller chain offers 40% off all cut and colour services and they have a salon in Harvey Nicols, so you can feel extra swanky at minimal cost.

Mosko, Leigh Ross at the Grassmarket and Gordon Wilson Hair all give students a respectable 25% discount - the latter even offers free wi-fi so you can finish off that essay while you're getting a blow-dry. A current list fave is Sublime down in the Grassmarket.

Cheynes have six salons around the city, so there's bound to be one near you. Students get 40% off their first visit and 25% off thereafter.

Be-Ba-Boom in the East End have a solid reputation. and are often recruiting models, so sign up now for a new style.
