The best comedy
Tony Carter (pictured) We’ve recently seen Will Andrews twiddling the knobs and flicking some switches as a tech guy for other comics, but we love him most when he’s bounding on stage as his feckless Geordie jester alter ego. Liquid Room, Edinburgh, Thu 26 Apr, 3 & 10 May; the Stand, Edinburgh, Fri 4-Sun 6 May.
Brendon Burns This Aussie is a stand-up who divides opinion straight down the centre. But at least his shows are never dull. See 5 Things. The Stand, Glasgow, Thu 26-Sat 28 Apr.
Mark Nelson The 100% official Scottish Comedian of the Year keeps his bandwagon rolling with a performance at this venue which is establishing itself as a Glasgow staple. The State Bar, Glasgow, Sat 28 Apr.
Ani Mru Mru We can’t be entirely sure how funny this will be, but these dates by Poland’s hottest comics will certainly brighten up the weekend. ‘Three Solidarity members go into a vodka bar . . . ’ and such. Or maybe not. Royal Concert, Glasgow, Fri 4 May; Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, Sun 6 May.
Jim Jeffries Speaking of solidarity, this Aussie comic needs our support after having been assaulted on stage the other week by some mad Manc. Sure, the guy rubs a few people up the wrong way, but it’s only comedy for pity’s sake. Jongleurs, Glasgow, Fri 4 & Sat 5 May.
