Spotlight on: Fringe By The Sea

Summer Festivals Special

‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do like to be beside the seaaaaa…’ The List are pleased to report that Fringe by the Sea will return for its second outing following its debut outing last year.

Events are based in North Berwick, and organizers are hoping to fill the void left by the Spiegeltent’s departure from the Fringe, as announced earlier this year.

Festival organisers, Jane Thomson, Eric Wales and John Shaw will bring their own brand of Belgian theatrics to North Berwick, said Wales. ‘After negotiations with the Klessens Family in Belgium – originators of this type of performance space – we can announce that the Fringe by the Sea has hired one of these fabulous La Gayola Spiegeltents as a new, flagship venue.’

Last year’s venues, including St Andrew Blackadder, the Masonic Hall and the Abbey Church, will all host a variety of acts alongside the new Spiegel space, with acts such as Orkestra del Sol, Dougie Maclean, Karine Polwart, Michael Marra, and Bombscare all making an appearance; Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain will round off the festival.

Fringe by the Sea, North Berwick, 11–16 Aug.
