Sounds of this summer at the Big Top

- 30 April 2009
The Isle of Wight will be filled with the sound of music during its upcoming festival, with four more acts being added to the line-up for Saturday 13th June.
The Big Top will showcase the likes of Mercury Rev, the Buffalo natives whose eccentric interpretation of American rock has left audiences pleasantly perplexed for the last 15 years.
A taster can be found on their website www.mecuryrev.com where you can download their recent album Strange Attractor for free.
Closer to home, British art-rock band The Rakes are back on the scene this year to promote their third album. 'Klang' after a two-year break.
Also back by popular demand and joining them at the event are The Maccabees. The indie band's eagerly awaited second album, 'Walls of Arms', shows an evolution of their sound whilst still keeping its South London roots.
Finally, for a taste of Scotland, singer-songwriter and record producer Calvin Harris keeps the party going till the wee smalls hours with his unique brand of disco and pop, which has to date featured collaborations with Dizzee Rascal and Kylie.
The Isle of Wight festival originally ran from 1968 to 1970 and featured musical heavyweights Mark Bolan, Bob Dylan and Jimmy Hendrix. It was resurrected in 2002 and has remained one of the most popular annual music events. This year's acts include Paolo Nutini, The Ting Tings, Pendulum, Basement Jaxx, The Script and Neil Young to name a few. The festival will be broadcast on ITV 2 with Fern Cotton and Russell Hound hosting. The Isle of Wight Festival runs from the 12-14th of June.
