Greeted tonight by an admirable mass of dedicated followers, Casiotone Tone For The Painfully Alone AKA Owen Ashworth, proceeds to deliver a set spanning his entire back catalogue. Packing heat with an impressive array of electronics, Ashworth also takes this opportunity to invite requests from across the board. Songs like Ice Cream Truck, White Corolla, and Toby take a bow amongst several others all going down a treat, but it makes one wonder what anyone new to Casiotone's lo-fi, and sensitive electronica would think.
At times, his somewhat laid-back approach works wonders - the effort that has obviously gone into these songs can easily be heard, allowing them to stand up on their own - but the mumbling, and fairly static delivery makes it difficult to be consistently entertained. That said, the pace picks up with dynamics a-plenty as Ashworth is joined onstage by a full band line-up - including his brother Gordon - to perform songs from his latest album, Vs Children. This not only enhances the show, but the energy is immediately boosted as well as the overall sound. The fans are surely satisfied, and for those new to all of this, it's more than enough to warrant investigating further.
