Titan goddess Gemma Arterton
Gemma Arterton will play the demi-goddess Lo in the new 'Clash of the Titans' re-imagining, quashing speculation she will star as Princess Andromeda
Gemma Arterton has "the coolest role" in the 'Clash of the Titans' remake.
The 'Quantum of Solace' star has revealed she will play the demi-goddess Lo in the new movie - not the female lead of Princess Andromeda as expected.
She said: "My part is the coolest part. It's not in the original film. Perseus falls in love with her. It's a really great part."
The new movie is a re-imagining of the 1981 classic in which Perseus - son of the Greek god Zeus - embarks on an epic quest to kill the evil Medusa and the much-feared Kraken.
Gemma insists the updated version will offer something different to the original.
She told Empire Online: "The script is very different. Obviously the story is the story, but it's much more about Perseus' mission, and how he deals with being the son of Zeus, and things like that, so it feels a little more about him, and about the issues around that."
'Terminator: Salvation' actor Sam Worthington is set to play Perseus, while Liam Neeson has reportedly been offered the role of Zeus. However, it is unknown whether he still plans to go ahead with the project following the death of his wife Natasha Richardson in a skiing accident earlier this month.
It has not been revealed who will play Princess Andromeda, but it is believed movie bosses hope to cast an unknown actress.
