Pet Shop Boys - Yes

Everything that’s ace about the Pet Shop Boys is here.

Sure, the electronic voyagers’ ingenious pop template has been updated by clarion chart messiahs Xenomania (Kylie, Girls Aloud), and embellished by Johnny Marr and Final Fantasy’s Owen Pallett – but Yes also celebrates PSB of yore: the swing-beat, post-recession knees-up ‘Love Etc’ echoes 1993’s ‘Can You Forgive Her?’, while sprawling aria ‘King of Rome’ evokes ‘87’s cinematic epic ‘It Couldn’t Happen Here’.

Brimming with upbeat disco and down-tempo yarns of urban disquietude, consumerist decline and bromidic glamour, Yes is equal parts visionary and nostalgic, and it’s all the better for it.
