Will Young's car record
'Let It Go' singer Will Young claims he recorded his first song in a car park when he was at university.
Will Young recorded his first song in a car park.
The 'Let It Go' singer found fame after winning UK TV talent show 'Pop Idol' in 2002, but claims most people have no idea how hard he worked to make it in the music industry.
He said: "When I was at university in Exeter I used to go to a car park and sing there because the acoustics were really good. Then I'd record it and send the tapes into record companies."
Despite wanting to become a star from an early age, the 30-year-old singer admits he had never written a song before winning 'Pop Idol'.
He said: "I always wanted to sing and now I write songs because I love music, that's always how it's been.
"I'm getting a better songwriter. I'd never written before 'Pop Idol', I've been learning as I go along."
Will insists he has worked hard to be accepted in the music industry, confessing the long hours spent touring and recording were the last thing on his mind when he won the hit TV series.
He laughed: "The first thing I said to my friend was, 'It's brilliant, think of all the free parties!' "
