TECHNO

It’s certainly a busy month for the folk at Jackhammer and Creative Industries. Not content supplying the capital with their usual brand of high quality techno, minimal and electro, they are hosting a full weekend of techno and at the end of the month they weigh in with a massive 13 hour showcase featuring Dave Angel and Slam (The GRV, Edinburgh, 28 Feb).

That’s one hell of a lot of techno, but will the punters be able to hack the pace? ‘I think a lot of regulars can judging by the after-parties,’ laughs resident DJ Wolfjazz. ‘You can go from after-party to after-party for several days if you wanted to.’ Signing on for the full weekend is especially tempting when you see the reduced combined ticket price and the guests they have lined up. On the Friday Creative Industries take charge with a guest slot from Dutch jock DJ Misjah who specialises in fast upbeat techno. Following that on Saturday with Luke Slater for a set of electroid beats. ‘We’ve been trying to get hold of Luke Slater for quite a while so we wanted to do something special and this seemed like the perfect event,’ adds Wolfjazz.

Jackhammer are certainly thinking of the bigger picture when it comes to techno promotion in Edinburgh with plans to concentrate on less frequent but larger events and guests over 2009. ‘We’ve never really done anything like this,’ admits Wolfjazz, ‘but we thought we might as well try some new things.’

Can you handle the pace as Jackhammer celebrate their third birthday with part two of their weekend event, with very special guest Luke Slater for a slice of electronic techno from the UK master.
