Mother India’s Café
Mother India's Café, part of the well-known Mother India group of 'home-style' Indian restaurants doesn't take bookings, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table. But the delay is worth it. There’s a genuine buzz about the place, inspired by the chefs preparing the tapas-style food in the open kitchen, with diners encouraged to mix and match. Also plenty of vegetarian options.

Café Salma
The idiosyncratic décor, wall-mounted television and busy open kitchen give Café Salma an authentic feel. It's the kind of place you might chance upon on the subcontinent itself and the service is disarmingly friendly. This spirit of authenticity extends to the Lahori-inspired food (as well as the no-alcohol policy), while a wide range of kebabs, pizzas and burgers points to Salma's other role as a local takeaway.
523 Sauchiehall Street, 0141 221 7636, www.salma.co.uk, Mon–Fri noon–midnight.

Kebabish
This Govanhill eatery continues to lure customers with its flame-filled open kitchen, contemporary interior and tremendous value for money. Above all, it still delivers on its promise of 'the thrill of the grill' – whether that's huge portions of succulent lamb chops or chicken wings. The menu is vast, although the vegetarian options are less impressive, and Kebabish is becoming a local institution.
323–325 Victoria Road, 0141 424 1879, Mon–Sat noon–11.30pm, Sun 1pm–11.30pm.

The Wee Curry Shop
The sentiments of the 'small is beautiful' saying are certainly supported by Glasgow's various Wee Curry Shops. The newest one, opened towards the end of 2007 in Byres Road, is the latest tiny jewel in the crown of the empire of its parent group, Mother India. So far, it has managed to meet the high standards set by the other two outlets. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate and almost half the main courses are suitable for vegetarians.
7 Buccleuch Street, 0141 353 0777, www.motherindia.co.uk, Mon–Thu noon–2pm and 5.30pm–10pm, Fri & Sat noon–2pm and 5.30pm–10.30pm, Sun 5.30pm–10pm.
