New venue brings downtown New York to Edinburgh
- 19 November 2008
Edinburgh’s art scene has another new addition. The Bowery on Roxburgh Place in the Southside, opened last Saturday and takes its name from one of the famous city's hippest streets. The venue aims to replicate the quirky and semi mod attitude of the American hotspot in the heart of Edinburgh by providing a fresh and modern look at art, music and all things entertaining.
Its unique art exhibition, The Tower, offers an interesting take on painting with the work of artists displayed all the way up a large spiral staircase, whilst it's Bookery offers poetry readings on a regular basis.
The Bandstand, the venue's relatively close-quartered music space, is booked for regular gigs until the end of December and will feature several local artists as well as those from outside Scotland. The new development also boasts a theatre and a bar, with a cinema due for completion later this year.
