Five days of immersive, 'spooktacular' illuminations kick off on Thursday 28 October

Set to deliver a 'spooktacular' end to October and become one of the highlights of your autumn, the award-winning Paisley Halloween Festival is back with chills and thrills for all ages. One of the most popular and acclaimed events of its kind in the UK, this beloved and reliably fun-filled tradition has rethought its approach to transforming Paisley town centre this time round, with the safety and comfort of attendees paramount.

In an event dubbed 'Out of this World', it's all about the illuminations as darkness meets light and the festival's parade is replaced by a series of spectacular installations and light displays concentrated around Paisley Abbey, Town Hall and the White Cart River, creating a hypnotically beautiful and sensationally eerie effect. An alien invasion, creatures from the deep and a constellation of stars all form part of the free, family-friendly trail, which takes place from Thursday 28 October to Monday 1 November, from 5pm to 10pm each night – and can be enjoyed at your convenience.

Renfrewshire Council are behind the Out of this World trail, in partnership with sustainable, not-for-profit street theatre specialists Cirque Bijou. Pauline Allan, Events Manager for Renfrewshire Council, has said: 'We are so happy to be able to celebrate Halloween again in Paisley with this unique, immersive trail that offers something a little different from our usual annual Halloween Festival.'

With the festival a pivotal part of Scotland-wide celebration the Year of Coasts and Waters 20/21, the area around the magnificent White Cart River which runs through the heart of the town, will be transformed into the centrepiece of a, no doubt, unforgettable experience. Amongst the visual artists commissioned to transport audiences into this otherworldly realm is Mike Jones, whose 'Orionids' installation is intended to echo the breath-taking beauty of a meteor shower and will create a web of light across the river, while Studio Vertigo give us 'Nova', based on the mystical Star of the East, and 'Ursula Lassos the Moon', showcasing the power and divine beauty of the moon.

In addition to the trail, Halloween fun run the Monster Dash, organised by Renfrewshire Leisure, will be taking place at Linwood ON-X sport centre from 12pm on Sunday 31 October, with all the family welcome to participate. For those unable to make it along to the in-person events, or who are looking for more Halloween activities to get stuck into, online fun includes a short digital film that will be released on Halloween itself, while a 'window wonderland' digital pack of downloadable home decoration inspiration will be available towards the end of October from the website.
