'Corrie' has announced

'Coronation Street' is to host its "biggest stunt ever" for a series of shocking storylines for Halloween.

Fans can expect to see a week filled with twists and turns, and will reportedly be left gobsmacked when a fan favourite is killed as the Street's spooky celebrations go seriously wrong.

Executive producer Iain MacLeod said: "We set out to make a week of breathless, brilliant drama – and boy, have our outstanding cast, crew, design team and writers delivered! The week is jammed packed with twists and turns, and astonishing visual spectacle.

"It also has heart, heroism and humour in the most unexpected places. I have to say it again: our team has excelled themselves.

"Making any TV in a pandemic is hard, especially if you’ve been doing it non-stop for over 12 months – so I have to tip my hat to everyone for their tireless efforts in continuing to raise the bar, against all the odds.”

The storyline will see Dev, Aadi and Asha Alahan prepare to leave for their family holiday, but as the thunder crashes overhead they find themselves lost on a country road, chancing upon a prison van rushing injured drug dealer Harvey Gaskill to hospital.

The wrong turn will result in Dev having to make a 'Sophie's Choice' style decision when there is a fireball car crash and he must make the heart-breaking decision of which of his kids he drags from the burning wreck, ultimately choosing to save Asha.

At the same time, Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) is armed with a gun, seeking revenge for the murder of her son Seb.

As the storm intensifies the residents find themselves in the middle of a real life horror story with Abi, Corey, Jenny and Johnny trapped in rising water underground in the Victorian sewers.

The events – which take place on what is being called Super Soap Week – will result in a tragedy involving Gail Platt's sinkhole at number 8 and will ultimately lead to the death of a well-loved character.

MacLeod said: "We have a big stunt planned that will centre around the sinkhole in the Platt family’s back garden. And that will result in a death. Deaths only really work if it’s somebody that you really care about and it’s going to be somebody that viewers know and love.
