Alan Wilkins triumphed in this year’s Critics’ Awards for Theatre in Scotland as the author of Carthage Must Be Destroyed, a knotty drama about the political mindset. Now he’s teamed up with Glasgow’s Birds of Paradise, a company dedicated to putting ‘disability in the public arena’, for a play about a rural community desperate to reinvent itself after the young people have left and the sea is depleted of fish. When newcomers arrive, they threaten to change the vulnerable village forever.

Citizens’ Theatre, Glasgow, Wed 24-Sat 27 Sep and touring.
