'Strictly Come Dancing' bosses are keen to sign Peter Crouch up for the next series of the show
Peter Crouch is being eyed for the next series of 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The former footballer – whose wife Abbey Clancy won the 11th series of the dance show in 2013 – has proven a hit with viewers on his BBC shows 'Peter Crouch: Save Our Summer' and 'Crouchy's Year Late Euros: Live' so producers are keen to capitalise on his popularity and get him to sign up for the Latin and ballroom contest, which will return to screens in the coming months.
A source told the Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Peter is hugely popular and would be a phenomenal signing.
“The casting team were especially keen because he had such a high profile during the Euros."
However, Peter – who was known for his 'robot dance' goal celebration – may "struggle" as at 6ft 7in, it won't be easy to match him with a partner, and Abbey has previously dismissed him as having "two left feet".
The insider added: “Taller men have struggled but he would stand out a mile on the dancefloor.”
Meanwhile, show judge Craig Revel Horwood – who will be returning to the judging panel in 2021 along with Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and pro dancer Anton Du Beke – recently revealed that top of his wish list for contestants is England’s Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty, who has advised Prime Minister Boris Johnson throughout the coronavirus crisis.
He said: "It’s going to be interesting to see if he is a contestant.
“What do they say? It’s not over until the Fat Lady sings.”
Dancer Anton usually partners one of the stars on the show but this year he'll be on the panel in place of regular judge Bruno Tonioli, who will have to stay in the US to be a judge on 'Dancing with the Stars'
