Jeremy Edwards has claimed he will be returning to 'Hollyoaks' as Kurt Benson again in the future
Jeremy Edwards has claimed he is returning to 'Hollyoaks'.
The 50-year-old star – whose character Kurt Benson was thought to have died in a jet ski accident in 1999 – made a sensational return for the Channel 4 soap's 25th anniversary last year but left after just a few months on screen, and though he previously slammed his comeback, he's now suggested fans will be seeing him back in Chester in the near future.
He told the new issue of OK! magazine: "What I was doing got cut short because of Covid. I will be back at some point but I can’t say more than that.
"They’ve had to cut the numbers of actors they can use on set so it’s hard to bring people back and do big storylines.
"It’s just playing a waiting game."
Jeremy's alter ego, Kurt, left the village after he was exposed a con artist and he thinks fans were unsatisfied with the abrupt ending to the plot.
He said: "I think a lot of people weren’t happy with the end of the storyline.
"I did get a huge amount of positive stuff and loads of fan clubs were set up.
"When I go back I’ll be in a better place, I’ll look better and have a bigger storyline."
And Jeremy admitted he only said he'd departed "for good" because he "got in a mood" over trolls who criticised his appearance when he returned to the show,
He said: "I just got in a mood and was reacting because people were being mean on social media.
"People expect me to look like I did when I was 22, which is ridiculous.
"Then I saw it and thought, 'Oh God, I look awful and heavy.' I’ve dropped loads of weight now.
"I think I look slimmer and I’m happier for it."
Jeremy – who first appeared on the show from 1995 to 1999 – previously branded his comeback "a s*** show" and claimed he'd rejected the chance to reprise the role yet again.
He said: : "It became a bit of a s*** show. I was supposed to be back for much longer, then COVID struck.
"It would have been better to leave it alone because it wasn’t one thing or the other, they didn’t know where they were going with it.
“I was prepared to go for six months to a year but doing three months then not knowing my future?
"The fact is, Kurt’s alive, he can come back and they’ve said they want me back in future. But I’ve said, ‘Nah.' "
