The niece of Niamh, Sorcha, Sinead and Catherine Cusack, Megan Cusack, has joined 'Call the Midwife'
Niamh Cusack's niece Megan Cusack has joined 'Call The Midwife'.
The 24-year-old actress – who is the niece of siblings Niamh, Sorcha, Sinead and Catherine Cusack – will make her television debut in the BBC One series as Irish student midwife Nancy Corrigan.
Speaking about having such a famous acting family, she said: "There are two sides to it and – not from them – but you do feel a certain pressure. It’s the worry people think you’re only getting somewhere because of them but then the benefit is they know the industry so well. One of the most useful things for auditioning was my aunt Niamh saying you just need to have fun."
And Megan has revealed that being able to ride a bike secured her the role.
She added: "My agent rang and she was like, 'Can you ride a bike? Can you ride a bike?' That’s all she said. I was like, 'Uh yeah, I haven’t ridden one in years but, yes, I can.' And she was like, ‘great’ and hung up. Later I got the call saying I’d got it. It’s a good thing I said yes."
And the actress admits her biggest challenge was "keeping the nerves in check".
She explained to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was the first bit of TV, proper kind of something that I was doing. The biggest challenge was just keeping the nerves in check ... I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it on the day it comes out. I’m going to wait till the next day and watch it on my own."
Megan's auntie Sinead Cusack once appeared in the BBC One show as Dr Myra Fizisimmonds.
