Former 'Coronation Street' star Catherine Tyldesley was forced to turn down the chance to reprise her role as Eva Price in the ITV soap last year, because she had filming commitments on drama 'Viewpoint'
Catherine Tyldesley had to reject a 'Coronation Street' comeback last year because the dates clashed with her filming schedule for 'Viewpoint'.
The 37-year-old star portrayed Eva Price in the soap from 2011 to 2018, and while she was keen for her character to return to Weatherfield to be with her half-sister Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) when her three-year-old son Oliver Battersby lost his fight with mitochondrial disease, she already had commitments to shoot the ITV drama.
She said: "There was a storyline last year where Leanne's little boy Oliver got very poorly and unfortunately died, and it made total sense for Eva to come back because why wouldn't she?
"And they reached out to me, and it was so unfortunate that I'd already signed to do 'Viewpoint' and the dates, we just couldn't make it work."
Catherine felt she had let fans down by rejecting the cobbles comeback, and it left her feeling "really gutted" that she couldn't reprise her role in Weatherfield.
She added to Digital Spy: "As a 'Corrie' fan, I felt like I'd let people down.
"Because I really – I'm not one of those actresses that will say, 'No, I'm done with 'Corrie' I won't go back.'
"I felt like they presented me with this storyline and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, yeah of course she'd be there, it's her sister,' and I was just really gutted actually that we couldn't make it work."
This comes after Catherine admitted in December she would love to return to 'Corrie' "at some point".
She said: "I’ve been a fan since I was a little girl. Of course, at some point ... I’m really enjoying doing different projects and, touch wood, I’m really busy at the moment but 'Corrie' is so close to my heart.
"If the opportunity came up in the future, absolutely."
