Returning 'Coronation Street' star Tracie Bennett hopes viewers will "love to hate" her comeback character Sharon Bentley, who was last seen in Weatherfield in 1999
Tracie Bennett hopes 'Coronation Street' fans will "love to hate" her character.
The 59-year-old actress will reprise her role as Sharon Bentley in the ITV soap tonight (21.04.21), and while the character will return to the cobbles with a sob story for her foster mother Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox), the shop owner should tread carefully if Tracie's comment are anything to go by.
She wrote on Twitter: "Morning.
“Open a new door.”
Hoping that you all like the storyline and that you will love to hate me. [laughing face emoji] (sic)"
Tracie previously played Sharon from 1982 to 1999, when she and Rita infamously fell out over Sharon’s attempt to sell the Kabin after it was gifted to her.
The actress recently admitted she felt "really overwhelmed" with all the support she had received ahead of her 'Coronation Street' return.
She said: "I'm really overwhelmed with all your support, thank you so much.
"I'm absolutely delighted.
"I got a bit emotional. It's overwhelming what you've all said."
And last month, Tracie described it as a "dream come true" for her to return to Weatherfield.
She said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to the cobbles.
"It is a dream come true for me, I had such an amazing time there and I am looking forward to working with Barbara again and getting my teeth into the storylines they have planned for Sharon.
“I was first approached about coming back about 18 months ago, I was keen and excited to see what was in store but my work schedule and then the pandemic has meant that it has taken till now for it all to come together.
"I am so pleased that I can finally tell everyone as it has been hard trying to keep the secret.”
