Anna Maxwell Martin is to reprise her role as senior anti-corruption Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael in 'Line of Duty' on Sunday night (18.04.21)
Anna Maxwell Martin is returning to 'Line of Duty'.
The 43-year-old star appeared as senior anti-corruption Detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael in series five, and she will reprise the role in Sunday night's (18.04.21) fifth episode of the current sixth series.
She said: "Pat’s back, I can’t remember what she’s doing there, nor would I be allowed to blab, but suffice to say she’s got some new clobber and she’s ready to bust some balls."
It comes after Pat came in to investigate AC-12 head Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar).
And her return looks set to come at a terrible time for Ted after he was told in the last episode that AC-12 is to be merged with AC-3 and AC-9, and he is being forced into early retirement.
Adrian recently admitted some of his favourite scenes to film on the show have been with Anna.
He said: "I did like the interrogation at the end of season five, with Anna Maxwell Martin – I thought she brought a great character in to interrogate me.
"I love the interrogation scenes because they are like little one-act plays, they have all these twists and turns in them and are so engrossing.
"I know a lot of actors who have said to me, who'd have thought you could put a two-shot on screen for twenty minutes and people would be absolutely locked in, how does that work?
"Well it does work, when the story is great and you've got these fabulous twists and turns – so those are my favourite bits!"
News of Anna's 'Line of Duty' return comes after she admitted in 2019 that she doesn't always remember exactly what happens on the show because there are so many lines to learn.
She said: "It's really weird, I don't remember much, oh gosh, I learned one hundred million lines so I blanked it out like a trauma.
"There was stuff that happened when I was watching, like, 'Oh gosh, I forgot about that.'
"I had forgotten Stephen [Graham]'s character, I don't know why, I had forgotten."
