'Only Fools and Horses' legend Sue Holderness has joined 'EastEnders' as Billy Mitchell's new love interest
Sue Holderness has joined 'EastEnders'.
The 'Only Fools and Horses' legend is best known for playing Marlene Boyce in the BBC sitcom, and she is to become the new love interest of hapless 'EastEnders' character Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick).
Sue said: "After more than 50 years in the business it was my first time working on a soap and I loved the whole experience."
The 71-year-old star will join the soap as Estelle, who will grow close to Billy after arriving in Albert Square to oversee a photoshoot involving his and Honey Mitchell's (Emma Barton) daughter Janet.
Sue – whose 'Only Fools' character Marlene is the wife of John Challis' alter-ego Aubrey 'Boycey' Boyce – found it "surreal" walking around Walford.
She said: "I was absolutely delighted to have been given the chance to visit Walford.
"It felt very surreal to be popping into the actual fish and chip shop, Ruby’s club, the Queen Vic, and wandering around Albert Square.
"I was just ridiculously excited about the whole thing."
'EastEnders' viewers will first see Estelle in Albert Square in April.
Sue portrayed Marlene in 'Only Fools' from 1985 to 2003, and she later reunited with John for spin-off series 'The Green Green Grass', which saw Boycey and Marlene relocate to the countryside to escape the evil Driscoll brothers, from 2005 to 2009.
Since then, the star has appeared in 'Still Open All Hours' as Mrs Rossi, and last year she played Gloria Davidson in 'Holby City'.
