'Emmerdale' star Lisa Riley reveals Mandy Dingle's wedding dress is inspired by 'Bridgerton' and 'RuPaul's Drag Race UK'

Lisa Riley's 'Emmerdale' wedding dress is inspired by 'Bridgerton' and 'RuPaul's Drag Race UK'.

The 44-year-old star's character Mandy Dingle is set to get married to gambling addict Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale) next week, and she's opened up on the pop culture inspirations behind her gown.

She told Inside Soap magazine: "The dress is the talk of the town! This wedding is third-time lucky for Mandy, she wants her happy-ever-after, and she's going to make her mark with his dress.

"It's based a little bit on The Vivienne, who won the first season of 'RuPaul's Drag Race UK', with a little touch of 'Bridgerton' and 'Gypsy Wedding' in there."

Lisa admitted the current filming restrictions in place due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic also had to be taken into consideration for the outfit.

She explained: "We did have a problem with the corset, as no one is allowed to touch me [due to COVID restrictions].

"So the seamstress came up with a built-in corset that clips at the back just once – it's genius!"

The actress admitted it was all worth it, and the response from the cast and crew on set was "brilliant".

She added: "When I walked on set in that dress, everyone's reaction was brilliant – I felt like Kylie.

"It was amazing, and everything I wanted. The dress will go down in history, that's for sure!"

Meanwhile, there's going to be a dramatic moment as "at least one character" will die next week following an explosive stunt.

The action will unfold next week when Jimmy King (Nick Miles) loses control of his vehicle which careers off the road at speed and ploughs into farm buildings, resulting in a series of explosive events which will eventually lead to the untimely death of at least one character.

Producer Laura Shaw admitted shooting the dramatic sequence – which occurs on Paul and Mandy's wedding day – amid coronavirus-enforced social distancing regulations was "no easy task".

She said: "For months now we've been waiting for the appalling, horrible truth about Paul to be exposed and of course, we always knew that we would want that truth to come out in a hugely dramatic and explosive way.

"Shooting a colossal stunt with social distancing is no easy task and it took months of meticulous planning and the whole 'Emmerdale' team, proudly pulling together, to enable us to successfully achieve what are undoubtedly, our most ambitious and spectacular episodes of the last year."
