'Coronation Street' star Tracie Bennett has admitted she felt "a bit emotional" upon seeing all the support from the soap's fans after her return was announced
Tracie Bennett is "really overwhelmed" with all the support she's received ahead of her 'Coronation Street' return.
The 59-year-old West End and Broadway actress is to reprise her role as Sharon Bentley – after previously starring as the character on and off from 1982 to 1999 – and she got "a bit emotional" by all the positive feedback she received.
She said: "I'm really overwhelmed with all your support, thank you so much.
"I'm absolutely delighted.
"I got a bit emotional. It's overwhelming what you've all said."
Tracie also admitted she is back on the cobbles "long term", and told how her return was the brainchild of 'Corrie' writer Jonathan Harvey.
Speaking in a video she shared on Twitter, she added: "I'm sorry I can't answer back and I'll tell you why.
"When I say long script, I mean long term.
"Because it's a long storyline.
"Thanks to ITV and Jonathan Harvey, whose idea it was in the first place."
Earlier this month, Tracie admitted it is a "dream come true" for her to return to the cobbles.
She said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to the cobbles.
"It is a dream come true for me, I had such an amazing time there and I am looking forward to working with Barbara again and getting my teeth into the storylines they have planned for Sharon.
“I was first approached about coming back about 18 months ago, I was keen and excited to see what was in store but my work schedule and then the pandemic has meant that it has taken till now for it all to come together.
"I am so pleased that I can finally tell everyone as it has been hard trying to keep the secret.”
