Rylan Clark-Neal describes himself as an "'X Factor' reject" and believes he should've been "forgotten about in 2013", but he credits Dame Barbara Windsor with being partly responsible for him having a 10-year career
Rylan Clark-Neal credits Dame Barbara Windsor as the reason he has been working for 10 years – and insists he should've been "forgotten about in 2013".
The 'Ready Steady Cook' presenter has always remembered a passing comment from the late 'EastEnders' actress, when she advised him to say "nice to see you" to people rather than "nice to meet you" in case he has met the person before, and believes that has got him out of "a load of scrapes".
He said: "I was lucky enough to meet Barbara back in 'X Factor' days.
"She came on the show and she was lovely, and we all said hello to her and that was that.
"Then about six months later I was in a department store wanting to buy some underwear. Really mundane.
"And I felt a little pull on the back of my jumper and I turned round to look down and it was Barbara.
"She was like, 'Hello darling,' and I said, 'Hello Barbara, how are you?'
"And she was like, 'Scott is over there,' her lovely husband, and I went, 'Hello, Scott. Lovely to meet you.'
"And she went, 'No, you met him on 'X Factor', he was with me that day.'
"I said, 'Oh, Scott. I'm so sorry, I'm all over the place.'
"And she said to me there and then, 'Never nice to meet you, always nice to see you, because you've probably met them before.'
"I tell you what – I think that's the reason I've been working for 10 years.
"That has got me out of a load of scrapes, let me tell you."
Rylan – who also hosts 'Supermarket Sweep' – describes himself as an "'X Factor' reject" and believes he should've been "forgotten about" eight years ago.
Speaking on 'Lorraine', he added: "My 'X Factor' anniversary is 10 years next year, and it's just ridiculous.
"Let's be honest, I'm an 'X Factor' reject.
"I should've been forgotten about in 2013.
"But somehow, someone was looking down on me and I was very, very lucky."
