'Coronation Street' actress Jennie McAlpine felt like she was acting out a play when she filmed an 18-page scene opposite Alan Halsall

Jennie McAlpine felt she was acting out a play while portraying an epic 18-page 'Coronation Street' scene.

The 37-year-old star's character Fiz Stape had showdown talks with her partner Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) this week about him growing closer to their lodger Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu), and while the actress was shocked to discover the scene was so long, she admitted it has resonated with numerous viewers.

She said: "All our scenes are usually three, four, five, six pages.

"It was 18 pages, half of the second half of a show.

"It felt like a little play that we did.

"We've had some lovely messages and people have said, 'Wow, that's the conversation I had with my now-ex husband.' "

However, viewers will not see Fiz wreak any physical revenge on Alina, due to social distancing regulations, but there looks set to be an explosive verbal confrontation between the pair.

Speaking on 'Lorraine', Jennie added: "The other question is, 'When are you going to slap Alina?'

"Obviously, in these times I can't because we're all filming at a two-metre distance.

"So I've just got to confront her verbally."

Jennie – who has played Fiz since 2001 – recently admitted she was "gutted" when she found out about Tyrone's cheating storyline.

She said: "Fiz thinks that they’ve just not got married because they’ve not got round to it and if she sorts it all out, then he’d think it was a great idea.

"But when he says he doesn’t like the idea it’s a bit of a shock."
