Former 'Good Morning Britain' co-host Piers Morgan, who quit the show last night (09.03.21), has blasted Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, as "contemptible" for the "damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen"
Piers Morgan has claimed Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is "contemptible" for the "damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen".
The former 'Good Morning Britain' host quit the show last night (09.03.21) following his controversial comments about the duchess' interview with chat show host Oprah Winfrey on Sunday (07.03.21), and he has insisted he "doesn't believe almost anything that's come out of her mouth" and described her interview as a "diatribe of bilge".
Speaking to Sky News outside his home this morning (10.03.21), Piers said: "I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to have an opinion.
"If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that's entirely their right.
"I don't believe almost anything that's come out of her mouth.
"And I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.
"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it."
Piers also sent a message to "the woke crowd", insisting they will be "rather disappointed" when he re-emerges.
He added: "I think it's fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they've cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge."
During Meghan and Prince Harry's interview on Sunday (07.03.21), she made several omissions, including that she "didn’t want to be alive" after receiving heavy public scrutiny, and she also alleged an unnamed member of the Royal Family had raised concerns about her son Archie’s skin colour ahead of his birth.
Reflecting on the interview on Monday's (08.03.21) 'GMB', Piers insisted he "didn’t believe a word" of what she told Oprah.
Earlier today, Piers tweeted: "On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions."
Piers' tweet also featured an image of former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.
Alongside the war-time leader, a quote read: "SOME PEOPLE'S IDEA OF FREE SPEECH IS THAT THEY ARE FREE TO SAY WHAT THEY LIKE, BUT IF ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING BACK, THAT IS AN OUTRAGE (sic)"
