'BBC Breakfast' host Dan Walker has poked fun at former 'Good Morning Britain' presenter Piers Morgan, after the latter quit the programme last night (09.03.21)
Dan Walker has poked fun at Piers Morgan following his exit from 'Good Morning Britain'.
The pair have been in a breakfast TV ratings war for the past five years, but Dan mocked the TV presenter, who last night (09.03.21) quit the morning show, by joking he could appear on 'BBC Breakfast' today (10.03.21) if he wanted to speak about his 'GMB' departure.
Dan wrote on Twitter: "Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan
If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it... we could make some space for you in the morning (sic)"
It came after Dan poked fun at Piers for storming off set after he clashed with 'GMB' weather reporter Alex Beresford live on yesterday's (09.03.21) show.
He quote retweeted a selfie with 'BBC Breakfast' co-host Louise Minchin, and wrote: "This was taken a few seconds before I stormed off set because Carol said it was going to be chilly this weekend"
Piers hit back: "I'm surprised BBC bosses didn't storm in and drag you off set after yesterday's ratings came in."
And this morning, Dan tweeted: "To all the shouty, sweary people telling me I’m nothing like you know who... thank you Folded hands
If you want a programme happy to exploit issues like mental health to create controversy, division & clicks I’m delighted to say... you’re in the wrong place.
Have a wonderful Wednesday. (sic)"
Piers' 'GMB' departure came after he made controversial comments about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, following her and Prince Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday (07.03.21).
Meghan made several omissions during the interview, including admitting she "didn’t want to be alive" after receiving heavy public scrutiny, and she also alleged an unnamed member of the Royal Family had raised concerns about her son Archie’s skin colour ahead of his birth.
Reflecting on the interview on Monday, Piers insisted he "didn’t believe a word" of what she told US chat show host Oprah.
ITV confirmed last night that Piers had decided to depart 'GMB'.
They said in a statement: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave 'Good Morning Britain'.
"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."
