'Hollyoaks' newcomer Tom Benedict Knight reckons soap fans will be divided by his character Brad King
Tom Benedict Knight thinks 'Hollyoaks' viewers will be divided by his character.
The Channel 4 soap's newcomer – who will make his first appearance as Brad King on tonight's (14.01.21) first look episode on E4 – is introduced as Maxine Minniver's (Nikki Sanderson) new landlord, and she's horrified to learn he's the partner of her mum Trish (Denise Welch).
Tom told Digital Spy: "I couldn't be happier to be playing the newest bad boy in the village.
"I'm sure the 'Hollyoaks' fans will love him and hate him, but that's what you want to get the audience to react to your work."
In a recent 2021 trailer, the 44-year-old actor's alter ego appeared to draw the ire of Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas), and Tom is excited about the potential for his character.
He added: "You can guarantee Brad will be making more than a few enemies in the village. It's just in his nature to mess with people and get them involved in his dramas and dodgy dealings.
"With Brad and Warren, all I can say is that two alpha males in the same village is a cocktail for drama and huge explosions.
"Warren doesn't take to Brad the minute he meets him, but Brad sees a bad boy like himself and knows he can use this to his advantage."
Meanwhile, Tom's co-star Denise, 62, admitted he rang the soap's casting department to thank them for hiring him as her on-screen lover.
She said: "On Tom, I did phone the casting people and say well done.
"When they said I’d have a boyfriend, I thought they’d get someone who’d been in 'Dad’s Army.' "
