Queen legend Brian May "hates" 'The Voice' for focusing on a performer's vocal talents, rather than the wider picture
Brian May "really hates" 'The Voice'.
The legendary Queen guitarist isn't a big fan of the ITV talent show for focusing on one aspect of a performer – their voice – rather than the wider picture.
Drawing comparisons with his new perfume, he told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We make music and it is all about music but the packaging is vital as it is the first thing people see.
"It is vital. It is like an album cover, the picture on the album cover. That is the whole definition of people’s first impressions. We have a beautiful package with this perfume.
"You want to hold it and touch it. For me it is a big part of it. I think this is true of human’s too. With a performer you could say it is all about the voice but it is not just about the voice. It is about the whole body, the face and the soul."
He insisted this is the reason he doesn't like 'The Voice', on which the coaches – Sir Tom Jones, Olly Murs, will.i.am and Anne-Marie – have to listen to each act without seeing what they look like.
They only see the artist if they choose to spin their chair in an attempt to recruit the contestant onto their team.
Brian added: "Which is why I really hate this programme called 'The Voice' because it does not work. You can't just isolate a voice and think that is what it is all about.
“If you go to a concert it is about a person. You see their voice, you look into their eyes, you see their body and movement and their passion which reflects in everything they do. It is the same with this.”
