Caroline Quentin felt "a bit institutionalised" after she left 'Strictly Come Dancing'
Caroline Quentin felt "a bit institutionalised" after she left 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
The 60-year-old star appeared on the recent series of the BBC One dancing competition and she admits she felt a bit "trapped", describing the show as the "oddest thing she's done".
She said: "I was aware of it and I’d seen clips. But I never actually watched an entire programme. It’s probably the oddest thing I’ve done … Basically, you’re trapped. I mean, thank God I liked my partner. People say it’s an institution and … I felt a bit institutionalised by the time I came out."
And Caroline also responded to her critics, who slated her after she licked her professional dance partner Johannes Radebe on the arm after a routine.
Speaking about the infamous incident, she told The Guardian newspaper: "It would not have occurred to me that that would have been a problem. Not until Johannes came off, because he’s always looking at Twitter, and he went, 'Oh God.' I said: 'What, Johannes?' He went, 'People don’t like the fact you licked me.' I said, 'Why not?' He said, 'You licked a black man.' I said, 'Do you think it’s that, Jo?' He said, 'I’m sure it is.' I said, 'F***, that’s depressing.' And the word came down, 'People have been upset by you licking him.' Well, let me just say that Johannes was completely complicit.
"I am not a licker. I did not take it upon myself to lick him. We talked about it. It was consensual licking. It was meant to be funny. So get a sense of humour or f*** off. One or the other. I don’t care."
