Jason Donovan called Phillip Schofield to get reassurance from the host that he would be OK when he takes to the rink ahead of his 'Dancing on Ice' debut
Jason Donovan telephoned Phillip Schofield to be reassured about his nerves ahead of his 'Dancing on Ice' debut.
The 52-year-old actor was "frightened" to take part in the upcoming ITV talent show he called the host to ease his worries after his kids pushed him to sign up for the figure skating show.
Phillip revealed: “I think we’ve got an amazing line-up. I’ve already had a phone call with Jason Donovan who phoned me and said, 'Mate do you think I’m going to be alright?' I said, 'You are going to be fantastic, it’ll be fantastic.'
"He, like everyone, is pushed into doing the show by his kids. They were desperate for him to do it. Jason is frightened that he’s going to get broken, as is everyone, but that’s the nature of taking part in 'Dancing On Ice', there is nothing else like it.”
Meanwhile, the former 'Neighbours' star and Rebekah Vardy impressed the backstage crew after their initial training sessions when they were scored by the show's production.
A source said: "Every year the stars are secretly scored by production to see how well they’re getting on.
"Jason is by far the best, but Becky wasn’t too far behind. Although she was nervous, she’s turning out to be a frontrunner. The coaches and choreographers were really impressed by their progress. "It’s one of the toughest shows but both Becky and Jason have really thrown themselves into training."
'Emmerdale' actor Joe-Warren Plant – who plays Jacob Gallagher on the soap – is also said to have "really impressed" production, while ex-'Coronation Street' actress Faye Brookes, former 'EastEnders' star Denise Van Outen and retired Olympian Colin Jackson all rated as "promising".
The source added: "Joe and Vanessa have really been putting in the hours. He could be the dark horse. "Joe is only 18 so people weren’t sure if he’d take the show seriously but he’s really impressed."
'Dancing On Ice' airs at 6pm on ITV this Sunday (17.01.21).
