'EastEnders' actress Gurlaine Kaur Garcha has admitted she used to study her co-star Lacey Turner's acting as part of her drama homework during her younger years, and she always "aspired to be like" the Stacey Slater actress

Gurlaine Kaur Garcha used to study her 'EastEnders' co-star Lacey Turner's acting as part of her drama homework.

The 27-year-old actress – who plays Ash Panesar on the BBC One soap – has admitted she "aspired to be like" the Stacey Slater star from a young age, and she would love to share more screen time with Lacey.

She said: "I first started watching 'EastEnders' because of Lacey Turner.

"I wasn't allowed to watch the show when I was younger – however, my drama teacher told me to study someone on TV who I aspired to be like from an acting perspective, so I told my mum I needed to watch Stacey Slater for homework.

"It would be a dream come true to work with Lacey more."

Gurlaine used to be "obsessed" with Stacey and Max Branning's (Jake Wood) affair storyline before she joined the soap, and she says the 48-year-old actor – who has finished filming his role as Max – has been "so kind" to her.

She said: "I have watched Jake Wood for years, as I was obsessed with the plot between him and Lacey.

"At the NTAs last year, Jake overheard me telling Louisa [Lytton] on the red carpet that I was nervous, and he said, 'Don't be, we'll watch out for you.' He was so kind."

And the star admitted Louisa (Ruby Allen) and Danielle Harold (Lola Pearce) were among the stars who made sure she was OK on her first day.

She added to Inside Soap magazine: "On my first day, Louisa Lytton was the first person who checked I was OK.

"And Danielle noticed I was cold and took me to the costume department to get a jacket.

"Then Danny Dyer [Mick Carter] was on set during my first scene and put his arm around me and said, 'You're doing great.' "
