Bill Bailey has admitted he would love to see music panel show 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' back on screens
Bill Bailey has called for 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' to return.
The 2020 'Strictly Come Dancing' champ was a team captain alongside Phill Jupitus on the beloved music panel show between 2002 and 2008.
And the 55-year-old comedian would be thrilled if the programme – which was axed five years ago after 28 series – returned to screens as it was "the best fun" he's "ever had" on TV.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I don't think there is a show that's similar now.
“I don't think there is anything that's replaced it.
“It's not like they've given it a reboot and changed the format.
"Sometimes people would get a little bit riled up, but, I mean, that was the nature of the show.
“It was some of the best fun I've ever had on television. I mean, those records would go on for two hours sometimes."
Bill recalled how a lot of the stars on the show would get "nervous" before the cameras rolled and that viewers at home only saw "a fraction of the mayhem" that went on off camera.
He added: "What you ended up on the screen was just a fraction of the mayhem that was actually going on. They were great fun. And people would sort of get nervous.
“Just take it in good stead. That's what we used to say to them. Just come on the show and just be yourself, and just maybe mention some kind of shenanigans you got up to.
“That's it, that's all you need to do, and then look like you're enjoying yourself. Don't get too cross.”
The original version of the panel show ran for 18 years from 1996 to 2015 on BBC Two.
The first 17 were hosted by Mark Lamarr, while Simon Amstell took over from the 18th season.
From the 23rd onwards, a different guest presenter hosted each week, before Rhod Gilbert was at the helm for the final run.
Throughout the show's entire history, Phill was a team captain, while Sean Hughes, Bill and Noel Fielding captained the other team.
