Veteran presenter Eamonn Holmes has aimed a dig at the bosses of 'This Morning'
Eamonn Holmes took a swipe at ITV bosses during his last Friday episode of 'This Morning'.
The 61-year-old TV star and his wife Ruth Langsford are being replaced as hosts of the long-running show, and Eamonn aimed a dig at his bosses during the show on Friday (18.12.20), comparing himself to a cut-price Christmas tree.
He told Ruth: "Do you know what I saw yesterday? Outside the opticians was a man selling Christmas trees, discounting them by half price."
In response, his wife said: "They're struggling to get rid of them, I suppose."
Then, Eamonn turned the focus towards his ITV bosses.
He said: "I would say so, darling. That's the obvious conclusion. Which is why they're getting rid of us on a Friday now – after all this sort of chat."
Ruth replied: "Oh stop it!"
Eamonn and Ruth – who have been married since 2010 – are being replaced on the show by Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, with the new duo poised to start their roles on January 8.
Alison, 45, previously described the promotion as a dream come true.
She said: "I genuinely care about the show and the viewers who watch, so it’s a huge privilege and honour to be hosting a show I adore so much. I’m just really excited to be doing even more of what I love alongside the lovely Dermot."
Meanwhile, Dermot admitted to being "honoured" to be joining the 'This Morning' team.
The 47-year-old presenter explained: "We have huge shoes to fill and we are well aware what a privilege it is to be stepping into them.
"Above all, we want to have fun and for you to be able to kick your weekend off with a smile, especially given the year we've all had. So I'm delighted to be co-hosting with the living embodiment of sunshine on a rainy day. I can't wait to get started."
