A taster of the 10 albums on this year's award shortlist
The Scottish Album of the Year Award 2020 will be announced on October 29 when the judges will pick their favourite from a shortlist of ten albums.
Every one of the albums is very deserving of a listen – but what if you've not got time for ten albums? We've got your back.
Here's a sampler playlist – a taster menu, if you like – of all ten albums. Take a listen and click through to the full albums of your favourite tracks, you won't regret it.
When we held a Twitter listening party for the playlist, this is what we had to say about each track and album:
🎧 First up, "House vs. House" by @BlanckMass🍏— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 Described by @thelatedave as part of our Hot 100 2019 as a "fierce collision of rave, trap and electro" and we definitely agree! We're starting with a bang.💥

🎧 Now: "Me + U" ~ @bossy_love 🙌— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 We gave this ⭐⭐⭐⭐! The entire album is infectious, raw and captures just some of the huge energy Bossy Love give out when they're live. We hope to see them back up there soon.

🎧 Now: @callumeaster ~ "Fall in Love"— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 Fun fact: this album was written, performed and mastered by Callum entirely between his flat and studio (sans backing vocals), plus it was the winner of the public vote this year!

🎧 Now: @cloth_band ~ "Demo Love"— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 You might've heard "Old Bear" from this album in @bbcthree 's #NormalPeople. With the dreamlike feel of this track, we ask, what do you imagine when you hear this? 💭

🎧 Now: Comfort (@SlowDanceRecs) ~ "Not Passing".— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 In an exhilarating blast of queer electronic punk defiance, Comfort takes on anti-trans toxicity in this track: "My womanhood needs no permission." 🏳️⚧️

🎧 Now: @DeclanWelsh and The Decadent West ~ "Times"— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 Based in Glasgow, the group is praised for their authentic voice and they've got a great sense of humour: check out the video for "Absurd" after this. 📺😉

🎧 Now: @ErlandCooper ~ "Spoot Ebb"— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 Skule Skerry explores the land, air and sea through beautiful mix of field recordings, traditional orchestration and contemporary electronic sounds. We feel a bit calmer now, what about you? 🌊

🎧Now: @THENINTHWAVE_ ~ "This Broken Design".— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 This debut album is a sharp, self-assured critique of modern life and this song is a harrowing look through the lens self-torment and paranoia.
🎧 #Infancy #SAYxListParty @SAYaward pic.twitter.com/Bh8ZhXn4qX
🎧 Now: @novascotiatruth ~ "30 Min"— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 Nominated in the Best Hip Hop Category of the Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2019, Nova is here. This is the smart and sharp opening track of her EP 'Re-Up'!
🎧 #ReUp #SAYxListParty @SAYaward pic.twitter.com/HBF2GHz1vH
🎧 Our last track: @shhemusic ~ "Saint Cyrus"— The List (@TheListMagazine) October 20, 2020
🎧 SHHE the result of reinvention. After packing up previous creative endeavours, leaving her old life behind and spending time in Iceland working on a project: this was the dreamy result... 🌃
