'Doctor Who' star Jodie Whittaker is hopeful the crew can start filming the new series of the BBC sci-fi show before the end of 2020
Jodie Whittaker is hoping to start filming the new season of 'Doctor Who' before the end of 2020.
The 38-year-old actress – who made her debut in the beloved BBC sci-fi show in the 2017 Christmas special, and has fronted two series in the TARDIS thus far – has opened up about production plans for the next run of episodes amid the coronavirus pandemic.
She's quoted by RadioTimes.com as saying: "We’re certainly in prep, what we’re all hoping for is for us to be filming before the close of 2020."
Speaking during a ComicCon panel this week, Jodie also noted the lockdown measures in the UK mean this is one of the longest breaks the cast have ever had from working together.
However, Bradley Walsh – who plays Graham – insisted fans are in for a treat once it does make its eventual return for the 13th series.
He said: "Listen, this is going to be an unbelievable series – an unbelievable year of titanic proportions."
Their comments come after previous reports that the pandemic could cause the next full series to be delayed, although bosses "remain hopeful" that will not be the case.
A BBC insider said: "Filming is going ahead as planned and we remain hopeful that the next series will air in 2021.”
Meanwhile, the Beeb has unveiled its first-look images for the upcoming festive special 'Revolution of the Daleks'.
The episode will see The Doctor locked away in a high-security alien prison, leaving her companions – Yaz (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham – to continue their lives without her.
But when the trio discover a disturbing plan involving the Daleks is forming, they must do whatever they can to save the planet without the help of the Doctor.
At the time of writing, there is no firm release date for the festive special, but previous years have seen it air on either Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
