The Afterparty

VARIOUS

As the various currents of carnival activity begin to evaporate from the streets of Glasgow’s Southside on this high-summer Saturday, some of the finest DJ talent in the city will be taking to the decks in the stunning environs of the Queen’s Park Glasshouse. It’s a charity event spanning both rooms of this unusual venue, and everyone on the bill at this party is donating their services free of charge. Event organiser Samantha Bagg says that, despite the fact no fees will be paid, rustling up interest was no problem: ‘Everyone on the bill has been great about giving up their time for free, I don’t think anyone has any doubts as to the importance of the ChildLine telephone counselling service. The fact that all the acts are helping us to raise money by getting involved is brilliant.’

It’s testament of the reservoir of goodwill that can be tapped in Glasgow’s club scene that, once Bagg started making tentative phone calls about the event, it started to organise itself. Benevolent spinners include Twitch from Optimo, Andy Divine from the Art School, Mr Nice of Freakmoves, Kev Stevens (Buff Club), Craig Moogroove and the inimitable Chakra. The more observant among you will notice that It’s not often you’ll find Twitch playing records in Glasgow on a Saturday, such is his touring schedule: ‘I’m seldom available in Glasgow on a Saturday night, but because I’ve known Sam for so long and it’s a good cause, I am glad to do it.’
