Former 'Stars In Their Eyes' host Matthew Kelly has accepted he'll never get another job in television
Matthew Kelly has accepted he will never get another television job.
The former 'Stars In Their Eyes' host – who hosted the pop star impersonation show from 1993 to 2004 – is an established theatre actor now and although he enjoyed his time on television he knows that his days of prime time are done.
Matthew, 70, told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "My time with that [television] has gone. Of course."
And he doesn't have any hopes for a revival of his most famous programme, while he suggested reruns have ruined the drama.
He added: "They've run all the 'Stars In Your Eyes' on Challenge and Dave. They ran it dry so the viewers know who the contestants are going to be now.
"It is like 'We know who you were going to be – and you weren't any good.' "
Matthew also opened up about his own TV viewing habits and admits he enjoys watching entertainment shows like 'Britain's Got Talent' and, surprisingly, repeats of children's series 'Teletubbies'.
He shared: "Well, I suppose we have had a great chance to watch things that we missed the first time around.
"Hasn't TV always been like that? Repetitive. It has always been 'Oh Friday and Saturday night ... there is nothing to watch'. It does not bother me.
"I find it comforting, like 'Teletubbies'. I like repetitive things. I love 'Britain's Got Talent' too. I am devoted to it. I love Ant and Dec, yeah fantastic.
"I worked with them a lot and they are good guys who have never changed. I am not big on game shows. My view on television has always been the same. If you like it watch it, if you don't watch something else."
