This week's The Shows Must Go On! selection is the 1975 musical comedy inspired by the works of P. G. Wodehouse
Each weekend during lockdown, Andrew Lloyd Webber has been streaming a selection of his shows for free on his The Shows Must Go On! YouTube page to remedy the closure of theatres across the country.
Last week's show was the composer's 50th birthday celebration concert, recorded in 1998 at the Royal Albert Hall. This week, we're being treated to 1975 musical comedy By Jeeves, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and lyrics and book by Alan Ayckbourn. The comedy, based on P. G. Wodehouse's classical characters Bertie Wooster and his butler, Jeeves, stars Martin Jarvis and John Scherer as the farcical twosome. The show originally premiered in 1975 at Her Majesty's Theatre in London, and then after some rewrites, was produced in 1996 in both London and America, premiering on Broadway in 2001. The 2001 production will be the show that is streamed to audiences.
The show goes online for 48 hours at 7pm on Friday:
