Glasgow contemporary dance company shares its short films via Facebook weekly in April

With music, theatre and dance being made available to stream at home by companies all over the world, audiences are finding new ways to connect with their favourite mediums of performance. Many companies in Scotland are rising to the challenge by both making old work available and by hosting live streams on their own channels. As one of Scotland's most innovative contemporary dance companies, Barrowland Ballet is one of the latest to announce a new initiative designed to keep audiences connected.

Every Tuesday in April, the Glasgow-based company will be sharing one of its short dance films on its social media channels, with the films being available to stream for a full seven days. Known for their high quality and accessible dance-theatre works, which have toured both nationally and internationally, Barrowland Ballet's repertoire of short dance films includes Loose Leaf Tea, Whiteout, Wolf and most recently Strings, all of which tackle challenging and personal themes.

Loose Leaf Tea (Tue 7–Tue 14 Apr) is a comical dance film which takes a look at the ritualistic role of a cup of tea across three generations of women, while Wolf (Tue 14–Tue 21 Apr) stars Wolf Pack, Barrowland Ballet's free, intergenerational company for ages 7-80+, also incorporating a cast spanning three generations. Strings (Tue 21–Tue 28 Apr) captures improvisations between Barrowland Ballet's dance artists and pupils from Isobel Mair School and Whiteout (Tue 28 Apr–Tue 5 May) gives resonance to the complexities of bi-racial relationships.

Natasha Gilmore, Artistic Director of Barrowland Ballet said: 'I'm delighted to be able to share our short films throughout April, and curious to see the response. Each film is different in style but have at their hearts a celebration of people, our differences, our sense of humour and our connection. It feels an important time to share these films at this time of separation.'

Schedule
Tue 7 Apr: Loose Leaf Tea
Tue 14 Apr: Wolf
Tue 21 Apr: Strings
Tue 28 Apr: Whiteout

Each film will be available to watch on the Barrowland Ballet Facebook page every Tuesday from 6pm, and then will remain on Facebook and Vimeo for seven days.
