Scottish rockers to play Glasgow Barrowland on Wed 9 Dec
Glasgow alt.rockers Del Amitri have announced that they will play their first gig in over two years in December especially for Scottish NHS staff, as a means to express their gratitude for all the sacrifices that have been made by key workers during the COVID-19 crisis. Tickets for the free gig will be available from 10am on Fri 10 Apr.
The band, whose current line-up includes Justin Currie (vocals/bass), Iain Harvie (guitar), Andy Alston (keys/percussion), Kris Dollimore (guitar) and Ash Soan (drums), saw huge success in the 90s with five consecutive Top 10 albums and a number of hit singles such as 'Nothing Ever Happens', 'Always The Last To Know' and 'Roll To Me'. The quintet reunited in 2014 and 2018 for tours, but are now preparing for the release of some new music that is scheduled for autumn, followed by their first studio album in almost nineteen years, which is due in early 2021.
Of the free gig in December, frontman Justin Currie commented; 'In these dark days, with not a huge amount to look forward to, we just thought this gig would make for a great pre-Xmas night out for all those Scottish NHS workers who've gone above and beyond these last few weeks, and possibly have a harder few weeks ahead. It'll be our first show in over two years and it's at Barrowland Ballroom, a sort of heaven for us and what better way to get out of this hell? It's just our small way of saying thank you … and we promise we won't play that football song.'
Tickets will be limited to two per person (eligible staff and one guest, valid ID will be needed on the day) and will be available online only via Ticketmaster from 10am on Fri 10 Apr.
