Scotland's award-winning music convention, Wide Days, is set to take place in the capital from Thu 23–Sat 25 April, featuring a variety of speakers from the music industry and beyond across the three days. Six emerging Scottish acts have now been announced as part of the Wide Days mentorship program and will also showcase their material on the second night of the event.
The showcase performances, hosted in partnership with PRS Foundation and Ticketmaster New Music, will take place consecutively on 24 April at two Edinburgh venues. The night will begin at Teviot Debating Hall with experimental songwriter Kapil Seshasayee, singer-songwriter Magpie Blue and indie popsters Swim School, then will continue on at La Belle Angele with hip hop artists Billy Got Waves & Joell., rock duo MEMES and pop two-piece One Nine.
The diverse line-up of showcase acts was selected in consultation with broadcasters, journalists, promoters and bookers and a limited number of free tickets are available to the public by online registration.
'Narrowing it down to six acts was extremely difficult, reflecting the healthy state of the Scottish music scene,' said Wide Days founder Olaf Furniss. 'We are really grateful to all the artists who applied and the network of selectors who played an invaluable role in the decision.'
Ahead of the convention, the selected showcase artists will take part in a two-day mentoring programme covering topics such as promotion, welfare, media and income. The acts will also continue to receive support for their music careers following the event.
In addition to the gigs, Wide Days recently announced the first sessions in its conference programme which include a panel on musical martial artists, distribution/label services, using data and music video. There will also be a new local heroes strand with FLY Events founder Tom Ketley and veteran agent and promoter, Lisa Whytock of Active Events.
Other convention events include networking opportunities for industry delegates, including a music-themed walking tour, and a choice between whisky or Scottish soft drink tastings. There will also be a Festival Takeover, with three festivals each guest programming a stage on the Saturday night.
