Glasgow's Playground Festival confirms The Flaming Lips to headline

Brand new festival returns for its second installment in Rouken Glen park

Glasgow's Playground Festival will return for a second year following a successful run in 2019. The festival, which takes place in Rouken Glen Park, will run from Fri 31 Jul–Sun 2 Aug in 2020. Tickets for the three-day event are on sale now.

The Flaming Lips are the second headline act to be announced, closing off the festival on Sun 2 Aug. The seven-piece are renowned for their bold performances, which frequently feature blizzards of confetti, giant bouncing balloons and glitter. Supporting them are Reggae-legends The Wailers. Other artists also announce for the Sunday lineup include Craig Charles Funk & Soul, Luna The Professor, and Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5and a special guest to be announced.

Speaking of the new lineup additions festival founder Brian Traynor said: 'Like any major UK festival, we are aiming to deliver a truly world-class line-up of music this summer. The Flaming Lips are a huge coup for us given this will be their only Scottish show of the year and we can't wait to see them here in Glasgow.'

Back in late 2019 Playground confirmed the legendary electronic duo Underworld will wrap up the first day of the festival with their only Scottish appearance in 2020. Karl Hyde and Rick Smith will bring their classic anthems such as 'Born Slippy' and more from their 10 albums to the main stage with an accompanying light and AV show.

Warming up the crowd for Underworld is Nightmares on Wax, who will deliver another Scottish exclusive, performing his landmark cult-classic album Smokers Delight live and in its entirety. More acts for Playground Festival are to be confirmed in the coming months.

The inaugural Playground Festival attracted more than 14,000 revellers who enjoyed unforgettable performances from international acts including Groove Armada, Hot Chip, Django Django and Anna Calvi.
