Winners will be revealed at the SAMAs ceremony in Glasgow on Fri 25 Oct
The Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) has announced its nominees for 2019. The independent awards, which are celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, recognises the best new alternative Scottish music across many genres.
The 2019 awards ceremony, ran in association with Rebel Rebel Barbers and Creative Scotland, will be held at Saint Luke's in Glasgow on Fri 25 Oct. Hosted by radio presenter/DJ Jim Gellatly and poet Leyla Josephine, the ceremony is also set to feature live performances by experimental psychedelic rockers The Cosmic Dead, rising Glaswegian hip hop star Chlobocop, and Dumfries punks Franky's Evil Party.
'The SAMAs shine a light on the bits of the Scottish music industry that other award ceremonies don't reach,' said Creative Scotland's Head of Music, Alan Morrison. 'What they find there is a buzz of activity, sometimes in vibrant underground scenes, sometimes on the margins where tomorrow's talent is ready and waiting to step onto the main stage.'
The SAMAs feature seven different award categories and this year's 28 nominees include Walt Disco, Kapil Seshasayee, Billy Got Waves, The Snuts, Zoe Graham and more. A three day public vote will launch on Mon 14 Oct on the SAMAs official website, followed by an announcement of the winners at the live ceremony at Saint Luke's in Glasgow on Fri 25 Oct.
'For their 10th year, the SAMAs have assembled their strongest list of nominees yet, introducing superb musicians to new audiences who might not otherwise lend an ear to these genres,' said Morrison. 'Creative Scotland is proud to support an event that consistently thinks outside of the musical box.'
