Expect performances from the likes of The Cosmic Dead, Chlobocop and more
This year, when the Scottish Alternative Music Awards take over St Luke's on Fri 25 Oct, the awards will be celebrating their tenth year of showcasing the best emerging musicians coming out of Scotland. Helping the SAMAs kick off this milestone in excellent style will be psychedelic rockers The Cosmic Dead; Glaswegian hip hop prodigy Chlobocop; and Dumfries punk band Franky's Evil Party. Hosting the proceedings will be Scottish radio presenter Jim Gellatly, and award-winning poet and performance artist Leyla Josephine.
Run in association with Rebel Rebel Barbers and Creative Scotland, the SAMAs have a track record for discovering the next big thing on the Scottish music scene, with Gerry Cinnamon, Lewis Capaldi, Be Charlotte, Fatherson and Ninth Wave listed amongst past award-winners.
Details of the nomination process have also been announced, with seven awards up for grabs this year, including Best Newcomer; Best Electronic; Best Hip Hop; Best Acoustic; Best Live Act; Best Metal; and Best Rock / Alternative. Each award will have three specialist nominators who work in the music industry within the relevant category. The nominators will then put forward four deserving names, before the public have their say in a three-day-long digital vote.
The winners will be announced at the live ceremony at St Luke's, with a limited number of tickets available to purchase via the SAMAs website. For every ticket purchased, £1 will be donated directly to Help Musicians Scotland, which works to support up-and-coming musicians in establishing their careers, as well as providing vital health and welfare support to professionals in need of aid.
Richy Muirhead, the Creative Director of the SAMAs, says, 'There is so much high quality music coming out of Scotland right now, and it's important we take a moment to celebrate the artists and genres. The nominations list will be inspiring and innovative, and provide a great opportunity for people to discover new music.'
