The Cost (Anti)
The Frames - everybody loves them at home in Ireland, very few have heard of them anywhere else. Although they’re not exactly the new U2 that shouldn’t really be the case, for The Frames are a fine and evocative guitar band of the lighters aloft breed.
Led by singer and songwriter Glen Hansard, their songs are rousing, nostalgic efforts built on rising chords, occasional fiddles and a vocal which builds into mournful life. ‘People Get Ready’ is a glowing hymn to lost youth, ‘When Your Mind’s Made Up’ hurtles to a frightening, noisy climax, and ‘True’ is a sad, gentle ballad. Imagine, if you will, a Nick Cave of a more commercial, less melancholic type.
